Craig Madsen’s Montana River Outfitters (MRO) are Montana’s premier full service fly shop, guide service and lodging operation. Our fly shop and lodging is located in Wolf Creek, just 3 minutes from the very best fishing on the blue ribbon, (legendary) Missouri River, below Holter Dam. MRO has been in business since 1977, with many of our staff on board for over 20 years. Our team has the knowledge, honesty and impeccable customer service to help with your fishing trip, whether it’s for a few hours or for a week. We have everything you need for your trip, including equipment, lodging, boat rentals, guides and plenty of free fishing information. Our Team and Philosophy
Craig Madsen, MRO’s founder and owner, A Montana Native, grew up fly fishing in the area and brings with him decades of expertise. Neale Streeks has been our lead guide for 30 years. He is nationally recognized and knows the Missouri and its nuances like no one else. Top guide, Brian Scott, has worked for MRO for 25 years and can put you on to trout at the right time and best locations. Our general manager, Tim McKnight, has worked for MRO for 20 years and receives constant praise from guests for always going the extra mile to ensure your stay with MRO runs seamlessly. These folks plus the rest of our experienced and personable team are ready to make your experience with MRO superb from beginning to end. From our guide staff to our shop and lodging staff, MRO prides itself with having the highest quality Missouri River Fly Shops in the canyon, and will work relentlessly to ensure your experience with us is absolutely the best experience possible.

The Missouri River
The Missouri River is our specialty, from the trout rich runs below Holter Dam, to the "National Wild and Scenic" float downstream of Fort Benton. We provide trips on the Missouri's scenic tributaries too, including the Smith, Dearborn, and the Sun River. We also offer trips on other Rocky Mountain Rivers including the Blackfoot and the South Fork of the Flathead. In addition to our trout fishing opportunities, MRO also offers guided Walleye fishing.
