Company History
Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service had its origin in 1900 when the Davis Undertaking Parlor was opened at 123 West Main St. by William Davis. In 1914 he and H. F. West formed a partnership and changed the business name to Davis and West Undertaking Parlor. After West purchased Davis' interest in 1918, it was known as the H. F. West Undertaking Parlor.
H. H. Dokken and M. F. Getchell opened the Dokken Funeral Home at 19 West Babcock January 1, 1927 and on October 1 that year, they purchased Mr. West's business. The funeral business was conducted from the Babcock location until 1938 when the new funeral home was built at 113 South Willson Ave, where it is still located today.
Mr.Dokken purchased Mr. Getchell's interest in 1929. In 1946, H. H. Dokken brought in two partners, Howard I. Nelson and Roderick M. Kippen, and the business name was changed to Dokken-Nelson and Kippen Funeral Service. Mr Kippen left the business in 1954, and the business name changed to Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
Mr. Dokken retired from the business in the 1950's and Rexal Troth became a partner with Howard Nelson in 1963. In 1974 Mr. Nelson became inactive in the business, and James R. Mitchell became a partner in the firm. Rexal Troth retired from the firm in 1986 and Mr. Mitchell became sole owner at that time. He is still active in the business and to this day the name remains Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
In the fall of 2007, Mr. Mitchell and his wife, Berneita, sold the funeral home to Chris and Monica Remelywho also chose to leave the business name as Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. Mr. Remely has been a part of the Dokken-Nelson family since February of 1995, where he served as manager for many years. Mr. Remely and his family look forward to carrying on the legacy of unparalleled service and compassion that the Mitchells and those who came before them so prominently established.
